Under new ownership

It is almost three months ago that I posted Textiles Direct Closing Down. Now yesterday the sign said "Under new ownership". The staff seemed a bit cagey and weren't saying who the new owners were but they were obviously pleased that they still had a job.

Having bought a new fitted sheet in their last sale, this time I treated myself to some matching pillowcases!

This old wrought iron fence runs along the front of the Town Hall. On the right is the back of the sign, the front of which can be viewed on yesterday's post.

Walked up from lower car park then up to Cenotaph then up past golf course to gain road and soon over gate to bag top. This area deserves a longer walk even on a dry grey morning.

Another look through the fence at Carrfield

Back in February I stuck my camera through the gate and pointed it at right angles at the last remnants of the Christy Outlet Shop at Carrfield Mill before it was finally demolished.

Earlier this week I took this follow-up photograph. Whilst an office building still awaits final demolition, most of the site has been cleared as you can see more plainly on Hyde DP Xtra.

Low bridge sign

Last Friday I posted a view of Dukinfield Road.

Here today is a closer view of the low bridge warning sign. The bridge in question is the one by Hyde North Station which you can see in an old post from May 2008.

In the background, between the sign and the belisha beacon, is the sign for the Village Hotel.

Plain Pitt Street

Plain Pitt Street lies off Dukinfield Road and whenever I pass by I can't help but wonder where Fancy Pitt Street might be.

Taking a look at the tree behind the fence though, I'm thinking there's maybe someone who does know.

A Special School No More

There used to a primary school here for pupils with special needs. Originally it was called Werneth Grange and then Oakdale School. It later became Dale Grove School and more recently Thomas Ashton School.

It has now been demolished and the buttercups are taking over.

Shadows by Dowson Road

This was taken a couple of weeks ago and since then there are many more leaves on the trees.

Compare how it looked in the January snow when petrol was 2 pence per litre cheaper but diesel 2 pence dearer, and again with how it looked on New Year's Day.

The Weekend in Black and White: Hyde Chapel Spire and Werneth Low

This half-tone image is looking towards the western flank of Werneth Low (about 2km distance) and the spire of Hyde Chapel (about 1km distance).

The original photograph was taken about three weeks ago at the same time as the one of Kite flying on Werneth Low. The right hand edge of that more or less aligns with the left hand edge here.

I took a similar view to this in June 2012 when cows were grazing and storm clouds were brewing.

Welcome to springtime in Hyde

Welcome to Hyde it says on the sign, but spring is here at last and the leaves on the trees have grown and obscure the message.

ABC Wednesday: U is for Underwater

Underwater?

Are you wondering where the water is?

It is behind the upper fence.

This is the tunnel on the track from Gibraltar Row to Thistley Fields that passes under the Apethorn Aqueduct on the Peak Forest Canal.

As you pass through it you are literally underwater.

Blue Monday: Salvation Army Charity Shop

Back in March I posted a view of a new shop about to open in Clarendon Shopping Centre.

As some people predicted it was yet another charity shop. This one supports the Salvation Army. At least it is better than an empty shop.
