Signs at 328 Hyde Road, Denton just beyond the Cheshire/Lancashire border at Broomstairs Bridge.

Broomstair Metal Co. was set up in 1980 and dissolved in 1993.

[Update: The business actually began in the 1950s. When the founder died the company went to the eldest son who is now retiring. The grandson built the large building in the yard at the side of the river and has now moved to bigger purpose built premises.]

Todaysure Products who have subsequently occupied the premises appear to have relocated to Dunkirk Lane and the premises are back on the market.

Note how the area-code for Manchester phone numbers has changed from 061 to 0161 and how the newer signage includes the post code for the address.

Looking for Zest

Finding a suitable photograph for this month's first day challenge at City Daily Photoblogs has been difficult. I looked all over Hyde for some zest and I just couldn't manage to find any, so I popped over to neighbouring Stalybridge and found it on Mottram Road.

It is the name of an interior design firm. On one side of it is a café/sandwich shop simply name "Menu". On the other is a convenience store in what was once a sub-Post Office, conveniently situated on the road out of town.

Tameside Hospital

I expect to be in Tameside Hospital today having my gall-bladder removed.

I recounted the tale of my earlier hospital stay in Another Week, Another Hospital. I should have gone in two weeks ago but the operation was cancelled as a result of the industrial action the day before.

So the operation has been rescheduled for today. Nil by mouth from midnight Wednesday and be at the hospital for 8 a.m.

If all goes according to plan I should be home tomorrow.

Stepping into Stepping Hill

I'm going into Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport this week. I was going to pre-schedule a series of photographs to cover my time away but have decided against the idea.

I have a few photographs in my files for use when I return but it may be a little while before I can get out with the camera and take new pictures. So the blog will be on hiatus for a couple of weeks or so.

I'll be going into theatre on Wednesday. Meanwhile on Heritage Open Day last weekend, there was a queue outside the Theatre Royal in Hyde but alas no going in. You can see the video on Hyde DP Xtra.
