Weekend Reflections plus a cat or two

I was passing the lawnmower and cycle shop on Market Street when I noticed the cat looking out of the window.

The other side of the street is nicely reflected in the window.

Shadows across a reindeer

On the penultimate Saturday before Christmas two reindeer visited Hyde Civic Square to the delight of children, shoppers and photographers.

The bright sun cast shadows of the pen across the back of one of them.

Brookfold Farm and Valley

The farm lies between Godley and Hattersley.

Horses graze in the valley between the farm and the railway line from Manchester which is hidden behind the curving line of trees.

Helix aspersa

The common European Brown Garden Snail. The Helix aspersa is an air-breathing snail, which has a single lung. It has a brownish soft body, which is usually covered with slimy mucus. They have yellow or cream-coloured shells with brown spiral stripes. The garden snail has a flat muscular organ called a foot that helps it move with a gliding motion helped by the release of a mucus to reduce friction with the rough surface. They are extremely slow as their fastest speed is only 1.3 centimetres per second.

Fly on a buttercup above a dandelion

There are some dandelions in among the clumps of buttercups that grow profusely along the Trans Pennine Trail.

You can see the wider view of them on Hyde DP Xtra.

I was just trying to get a close-up of the buttercup and dandelion together when this blow-fly (aka bluebottle) landed just as I was taking the shot.

Horses on Mottram Road

At the bottom of Godley Hill Road.

On the right hand side is a "data collection camera". According to the speed camera page on the council website "A system of data collection cameras enable traffic engineers to build up speed profiles of the road covered. This enables the Council to identify speed hotspots and take the necessary action. They can also be used to help identify regular speeding offenders. The cameras also contain an overview camera that may be used for general public safety reasons."

Snoopy the dog

I heard a dog barking and found Snoopy (as I was later informed) tied to a bench outside the Post Office.

When the owner came out the barking stopped and the tail started wagging.

Crumbs on the Civic Square

Yesterday I showed you the Church carol singers on Hyde Civic Square.

They were giving out free mince pies to passing shoppers, which led to the falling of a few crumbs on the ground but they were soon swept up.
