Shadows over the College

Trees cast shadows over the Stockport Road, Hyde Campus of Tameside College.

Hyde College on Stockport Road, Gee Cross opened around 1960. It later became part of Tameside College and was closed in the early 2000s. Having been in mothballs for many years the site is now being sold in order to help fund a super college in Ashton-under-Lyne and despite being on Green Belt land a planning application has been made for an estate of 40 houses to be built on the site.

See another photograph of the site on Hyde Xtra.

Shadow Shot Sunday: A560 Gateway shadows

Entering Hyde along the A560 from Stockport are some huge raised metal signs which were erected at boundaries all around the Greater Manchester area at the time of the millennium. When the sun is strong in the evening their shadows are cast across the road.

Eclipse shadows

Others have posted photos of last Friday's solar eclipse so you don't need more from me. During the eclipse the sun itself still shone fairly brilliantly in a cloudy sky and despite around 90% of it being covered by the shadow of the moon it was still strong enough to cast these shadows across the car park.

February shadow on Clarendon Place

A cold February sun briefly casts the shadow of a pollarded tree on the shutters of the former Clarendon Gift shop on Clarendon Place.

Compare with a similar scene in September 2012.

The first significant snowfall of 2015 started late on Wednesday evening and this is how it looked before anyone had driven over it.

Shadows at Church View

I first published the view from "Church View" on 3rd May 2009 and later on 31st March 2013 but this time I'm showing a view of the street itself.

The sign under the street name sign reads "Private Road No Parking".

Shadows across Woodend Lane

The end of Woodend Lane from the top of Church Brow looking towards St George's Church.

There is just a feint glimpse of the church tower behind the foliage above the top of the houses on the right. The lych gate can be seen between the cars at the top of the photograph.

Shadows on a lorry load of Cheshire cheese

I was walking down Railway Street the other day and the sun was casting the shadow of a tree onto the side of a parked lorry.

The lorry in the photo belongs to FJNeed (foods) Limited. According to their website the Spinneyfields brand of cheese products was established in 1994 when the firm moved to its current site in Worleston amongst the dairy land of Nantwich in Cheshire.

Buddleia shadows on Garside Street

Buddleia (Buddleja davidii), is a medium to large perennial shrub with long arching branches. The lilac/purple flowers occur in dense pyramidal shaped panicles, which produce large quantities of nectar. The opposite leaves are lance shaped, deep green above and white-tomentose below. It is an increasing, naturalised garden escape, that is especially prevalent on urban and disturbed sites. It has become an important nectar source for many species of butterfly and moth, especially in urban areas where natural habitats have been lost and gardens are now important corridors for wildlife moving about the country.

Black and white shadows on Clarendon Place

This Saturday morning was rather cloudy and cool but around lunch time the sun came out casting shadows and I took a quick photograph on which I've subsequently done a bit of work.

You can see the original photograph on Geograph.

It is now around eight in the evening as I'm writing this. The sun is still shining and it is 25 degrees on my window sill.

I'm off to Llandudno for a week in the morning and hoping to touch in with Geoff who runs Llandundo Daily Photo.

I've got posts scheduled for the week and Bill Nicholls of Spud's Daily Photo will be keeping a cautious eye on things in my absence.

Depending on the availability of wifi I might just look in using my tablet from time to time.
