Shadows over the College
Trees cast shadows over the Stockport Road, Hyde Campus of Tameside College.
Hyde College on Stockport Road, Gee Cross opened around 1960. It later became part of Tameside College and was closed in the early 2000s. Having been in mothballs for many years the site is now being sold in order to help fund a super college in Ashton-under-Lyne and despite being on Green Belt land a planning application has been made for an estate of 40 houses to be built on the site.
See another photograph of the site on Hyde Xtra.

Again I love those old walls. If only somehow this could be turned into parkland. It would be lovely.

ReplyDeleteAn excellent blue find! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteHi Gerald,
ReplyDeleteThat blue sign against the blue sky is a perfect shot. Thanks for sharing.
Happy Blue Monday!
At least, the left the blue sign standing awhile longer for others to see.
ReplyDeleteTerrific use of shadow and light!
ReplyDeleteHi Gerald, you have shared a wonderful blue with us today! I am happy I finally got to make the rounds and finish visit g all the Blue Monday participates. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteSad to see a college go out of business and the land developed for houses. It will likely be a loss of green space. Fine photo of the college sign.
ReplyDeleteThe color is fantastic.

ReplyDeleteInteresting how a green belt area can become a housing site!
ReplyDeleteThat sign looks very out of place!
ReplyDeleteI think centralisation is a bad thing, whether it be the London-centricity of the UK Government (and the media, etc), or whether it is the focus of resources by Tameside on Ashton. I'm just glad that thirty years ago when I lived in Haughton Green, I had a choice of H6FC, Clarendon Rd in Hyde, Tameside College, Stockport Rd in Gee Cross or Ashton 6th Form College, Beaufort Rd - now the choice is Ashton or Ashton!
