Undertaker's car park under water
After heavy rain the car parking space for the undertakers on the corner of Market Street and Dowson Road is inundated by a huge puddle.
The reflection on the right is of the back of a house on Thornley Street, while the trees on the left are on Dowson Road.
See a wider, coloured view on Geograph.

Trans Pennine Trail near Foxholes
The route of the former Godley Junction to Apethorn railway is now used for the Trans Pennine Trail and National Cycle Route #62. In the foreground is a Rowe type Sustrans milepost. See the front of the milepost in my post of 27th November 2014.
See how the sign looked before it was painted in my post of 26th June 2014
See how the oak tree looked before it lost one of its lower branches in my post of 24th March 2013.

February shadow on Clarendon Place
A cold February sun briefly casts the shadow of a pollarded tree on the shutters of the former Clarendon Gift shop on Clarendon Place.
Compare with a similar scene in September 2012.

ABC Wednesday: D is for Danger on Dowson Road
This was the pavement on Dowson Road last Friday. Although the main road had been gritted and traffic was flowing, the pavement consisted of slippery slush which would turn into deadly ice once the temperature dropped.

Two for Joy
According to the old counting magpies nursery rhyme it is one for sorrow, two for joy ...
We've just had our first significant snowfall of the year and I caught this pair of magpies perching on the snowladen branches of the nearby trees.

Shadows at Swains Valley
As the bright sun throws tree shadows across the grass, at the junction of the footpaths from Haughton Street and Garside Street, a man is leading two dogs down towards the Trans Pennine Trail.

Freezing Fog
After a heavy overnight frost on a dusting of snow, a bright sun arose but as it gently melted the frost it created a thick mist.

Through trees the glimpse of a clock
Locals might wish to hazard a guess which clock this is. Only clue I'll give is that it is in the SK14 postcode area.

Another reflection in a puddle on the Trans Pennine Trail
There is nearly always a large puddle by the Dowson Road bridge on the former Godley Junction to Apethorn railway line now used by the Trans Pennine Trail and National Cycle Network Route #62.
It isn't the first time I've photographed it but usually I do so from the opposite direction. This was taken a couple of weeks ago from just under the bridge looking towards Swains Valley.

The Embarrassment of Mottram Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree on the Market Place at Mottram in Longdendale was branded the worst in Britain when it was planted by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. Villager Emma Purcell created the Facebrook Group The Embarrassment of Mottram Christmas Tree as a place for members past and present of Mottram community to air their anger and views about the size and quality of the Christmas Tree, believing they deserved bigger and better! However once the anger had dissipated, "Twiggy", as it has come to be known, has kindled much community spirit.
A charity night was organised with entertainment in the nearby White Hart and carol singing on the Market Place raising money for Reuben's Retreat.
The Crown Pole in the background was originally erected in 1760 to commemorate the coronation of George III.
The village stocks in the foreground were moved here in the 1960s having been discovered during the building of the Hattersley estate.
Another view of the tree can be seen on Hyde DP Xtra.

Trees at the entrance to Hyde Town Hall
It used to be a tradition for a large Xmas tree to be placed outside Hyde Town Hall.
See how it looked in 1998, again in 2009 and the same tree covered in snow in January 2010.
Now though we have far fewer lights and the tree is in the Civic Square.
Recently, however, two new Christmas trees have replaced bushes on either side of the entrance to the Town Hall. One is sponsored by KFC and the other by McDonalds.
A closer view of the sponsored trees can be found on Hyde DP Xtra.
