New platform at Hyde Central Station
The last time I showed a photo of Hyde Central Station there was nowhere to sit.
Now that the work on platform 1 has been completed the three chairs out in the open and the small shelter are available again.

Seats out of use
Whilst improvement work takes place at Hyde Central Station there is nowhere for waiting passengers to sit as these seats are behind the barriers.
According to Northern Rail they will be refurbishing the rear station wall; resurfacing the station concourse; installing improved lighting; resurfacing and improving and drainage in the car park.
A workman said they will be putting the shelter back when the work is complete.

The overgrown turntable at Godley
This is the site of the former railway turntable on the Godley Junction to Apethorn railway line. The "Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC)" route opened in 1866. Here is where trains heading for Fiddler's Ferry power station via Warrington Arpley would exchange locomotives. The whole point of the railway was to carry Yorkshire coal to Lancashire for burning in one way or another. Originally the trains were steam hauled but after electrification of the Woodhead line in the 1950s the class 76 electric locos would draw the train onto the branch and un-couple before running around and departing; subsequently, a diesel loco would appear and hook-on for the remainder of the trip. Freight services over Woodhead ended in 1981 and this line became redundant. The track was removed and over the years nature has been regaining the ground.

Bridge #43 at Godley Hill
This is the bridge under the Manchester to Glossop railway line at Godley Hill. The road under the line led from Station Road past the Kerry Foods factory to Godley Hall - see how it looked in March 2010
Since the building of the new road Kerry Way, access to Godley Hill from Station Road under this bridge (#43 on the Hadfield and Ardwick Junction line) has been blocked off.
Take a walk under the bridge to see the new road, Godley Hill and its War Memorial by following me to Hyde DP Xtra.

Weekend in Black and White: Hattersley Station
Yesterday I showed you the approach to the entrance to Hattersley Station.
The station has an island platform and lies in a cutting so access from the entrance is down a sloping covered footbridge which crosses the eastbound track then turns a right angle to reach the platform.
This view is looking westbound past the footbridge and along the track towards Godley.
See how it looked six years ago on Hyde DP Volume 1.

Broadbottom Station
Apologies for the reflections as this was taken with my phone camera through a train window.
The Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne & Manchester Railway called the station "Broadbottom" when it opened on 10 December 1842. In July 1845, the name became "Mottram". The MS&L later decided on the best of both worlds when they renamed the station "Mottram and Broadbottom" on 1 May 1884. From 1 August 1897, the MS&LR became the Great Central Railway (GCR), and the GCR was merged with other companies to form the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) on 1 January 1923.
Modern officials were not happy with such duplicity and the station reverted to its original title on 1 January 1954. Something of the former legend, though, was applied with the suffix "for Mottram and Charlesworth" remaining in use until comparatively recently.
Goods facilities here ceased on 15 July 1963 and the station remains open today. Catering for never more than local traffic the station did have a moment of glory for a short period in the 1920s, when the LNERs morning restaurant car express from Manchester London Road to London Marylebone called here.
Currently it is a stop of the Northern Rail service between Manchester Piccadilly and Glossop/Hadfield.

Weekend in Black & White: Broadbottom Arch
According to a faded plaque on the door of this business under an arch of the viaduct over Market Street at Broadbottom it was "Awarded National Lottery funding".
See how it looked in 2008 on sithenah.
It would appear that funding has run out as the nameplate below is unreadable - see the close-up on Geograph.
