A Dinosaur in Hyde
On Easter Saturday some dinosaurs visited Hyde and roamed around town. The first arrived on the Civic Square about 10.45am. More came later and by mid-afternoon the place was crowded with people enjoying the market festivities.
I've been posting a daily photo of Hyde now for nine years with only a few days missing. Five years ago I put Hyde Daily Photo Vol. 1 (2006-2011) into archive mode. Now I am putting Vol. 2 into archive mode.
I shall continue to post photos of Hyde on Hyde Xtra but not necessarily every day. That blog was originally started by a spammer who copied many of the City Daily Photo Blogs. After a concerted effort the blog was closed down and I took over the URL in 2009 as a place to post extra photographs. If you have previously linked to us on your side-bar or elsewhere please update the link to follow Hyde Xtra.
I will still be posting periodically on all my other blogs and uploading photos to the Geograph Britain & Ireland project where you can contact me via my profile page.

Craig's Welsh Meat and Cheeses
A visitor to Hyde Market on Saturday was the "Meat Man" selling "Craig's Quality Meats" from his lorry. A separate stall was devoted to Craig's Farmhouse Cheeses.
For details of their produce see the Bodelwyddan Farm Shop Facebook page.
Despite the stormy weather I hope he did well enough to come back again.

Busker on Hyde Civic Square
Near the bus stop by the flower planter and between the phone box and a bench a busker is playing on the Civic Square. He has come fully equipped with music stand microphone and speakers. In the background the Town Hall on the right is covered with scaffold. On the left is the RBS bank.

Zig-zagging around the Indoor Market
Hyde Indoor Market is accessed from the Clarendon Square Shopping Centre. Opposite the tripe stall "Let's Talk Tripe" one ramp zigs up to the first floor where various stalls including Wilde's greengrocery can be found. Another ramp zags down to the basement where more stalls can be found.

Shadows across a reindeer
On the penultimate Saturday before Christmas two reindeer visited Hyde Civic Square to the delight of children, shoppers and photographers.
The bright sun cast shadows of the pen across the back of one of them.

Christmas wreaths for sale
Whilst the hanging of holly wreaths on your door is probably a pagan tradition, the advent wreath is now part of the Christian tradition.
A local garden centre were selling a variety of decorated wreaths outside the White Lion on Hyde Market recently.

Frosty Bench
Although the sun is throwing shadows, the bench, in front of the market gardener's stall selling Christmas trees, is still covered in frost.

ABC Wednesday: S is for Saturday stalls
Some new stalls have been setting up on Saturdays at Hyde Market.
Sweet Lily Peas sells baby and children's wear whilst Wear It Love It specialises in ladies fashion wear.
When I spoke to one of the stallholders she said she was liking Hyde Market a lot better than Ashton so the stall will become a regular sight here.

A pack of pouncing, pecking pigeons
I was sitting on a bench in the Civic Square when someone either dropped or threw down a bit of sandwich.
Immediately a pack of pigeons descended and pounced on the offering.
However it was a starling that was first to break out of the pack with a titbit in its beak.

ABC Wednesday: I is for Ice Bucket Challenge
Looking out last Saturday from the entrance to Clarendon Square Shopping Centre past the "key-cutting" stall towards Corporation Street with the RBS bank on one corner and the Town Hall on the other. The stall is advertising an "Ice Bucket Challenge" event taking place later that morning involving some of the traders from the Indoor Market. By 12 noon it was pouring down with rain so everyone was wet anyway. I wasn't able to stay and watch it but I have seen the video on Facebook.

Blood Bikes Manchester
Blood Bikes Manchester were fund-raising on Hyde Civic Square last Saturday.
Blood Bikes Manchester is a registered charity, which offers an out of hours and free of charge urgent medical courier service to the NHS. They volunteer to play their part in saving peoples lives and save the NHS money that would otherwise be wasted on taxis or expensive couriers, but more than anything else they do it because they love it. More information on the Blood Bikes website.

Lifeboats and ice cream
A week last Saturday was a hot day on Hyde Civic Square.
Behind the charity stall for the RNLI is Madge's ice-cream van (established 1897). That business is about as old the children's carousel glimpsed on the right.
In the background are bookies William Hill and the Santander Bank (a former Abbey bank and the only Santander in town now the former Bradford & Bingley has been closed).

Hyde Town Team
Hyde Town Team was formed in October 2012 to "try and bring vibrancy back into Hyde Town Centre". They have arranged a series of events, mostly on Hyde Civic Square, throughout the year.
Last Saturday they were giving away balloons whilst collecting donations for local food banks.
