Shadows and Reflection at the Bus Stop
The shadow of the bus stop on Market Street is cast across the pavement whilst the shops are reflected in the shelter.

The Astoria and a bus
I last posted a photograph of the former Astoria on 5th January 2012.
Not much seems to have happened to it since then except for a poster on the side of it which appears to indicate that the building is now owned as a "property investment".
Meanwhile a #201 Stagecoach bus from Hattersley to Manchester Piccadilly is entering the bus station from New Beech Street.

No more Cheshire Cheese in Broadbottom
The former Thwaites brewery pub, the Cheshire Cheese in Broadbottom joins the list of hostelries closed and shuttered up.
See how it looked four years ago on Geograph.
The bus on the right was waiting to pick up a group of school children who had been exploring the nearby Lymefield Visitor Centre.

Splash!
Compared to rest of the country we got off very lightly but on 23rd December there was flash flooding on Dowson Road. The pavement was completely awash and pedestrians had a dreadful time.

Stop Smoking Bus

The "First Stop Health Bus" was parked on the Asda supermarket car park last week.
According to The First Stop Health Bus website it is a NHS Greater Manchester initiative which takes NHS services out of traditional settings and in to the heart of the community. It offers stop smoking advice and support via a range of methods as well as a range of health checks.

Apple iPod advertisment
A few weeks ago at the Clarendon Place bus stop I captured this bus with a livery advertising the Apple iPod.
I have no interest in an iPod but did think it would be a suitable "A" contribution for the next round of ABC Wednesday.

Christmas Tree reflections
It had rained on Monday and around the Christmas tree in Hyde Civic Square the wet market ground carried reflections of the HSBC bank and the baked potato stall.
In the background is a Stagecoach 330 bus at the grade II listed bus shelter.
I'd done my shopping so just quickly took this shot and then went to catch that bus.

Ruby Tuesday: Vintage Bus
I recently saw this red-liveried 1951 Duple Roadmaster bus LOE300, currently owned by K & R Walsh Bros of Belle Vue Coaches, parked on Mottram Road.
Information on the Old Bus Photos website suggests it started life in 1951 with Jackson of Castle Bromwich and was later operated by South Notts who sold it on to the British Legion.
See the front of the vehicle on Hyde DP Xtra.
Earlier this year it could be seen at Leyland Transport Festival.

Long Shadows on Market Street
Another view from last Saturday week when long shadows were being cast across Market Street.
Behind the brand new litter bin is the Victorain bus (formerly tram) shelter which is a Grade II listed structure and is therefore a survivor of the recent £1.2 million revamp of the market.

Painting the Heritage Bus Shelter
A week last Sunday when the weather was still kind, a workman in a blue teeshirt was busy painting the "Heritage" bus shelter on Market Street.
Originally a tram shelter it is a Grade II listed structure.
Sunday afternoons are very quiet and there are fewer buses stopping by - see it from the opposite direction a couple of weeks earlier.

Red flowers in Clarendon Place
On Sunday I posted a view of September shadows featuring the planters on Clarendon Place.
Today's view is from a different angle looking down the street as a Stagecoach 201 bus from Manchester to Hattersley comes round the corner.

Work behind the fencing
There is fencing around both sides of the "heritage bus stop" on Market Street whilst workmen are busy erecting a second planter on the market ground. I showed you them working on it in my post last Monday.
You can see a view from the other side on Hyde DP Xtra.

Bus Stop Yellow
Yellow lines delineate the bus stop at the end of Talbot Road, Newton.
The house across the roundabout at the end of Talbot Road is called Chapel Hill and has a date stone reading 1912. I beleive it was formerly a Wesleyan Chapel. To the left on Matley Road are modern terraces dating (I think) from the 1970s or 1980s. To the right the cottages on Victoria street are probably late Victorian.
Behind the bus stop on the left is the Bay Horse. The public house is currently boarded up as you can see on Hyde DP Xtra.
For Mellow Yellow Monday.
Note: I'll be away in St Annes all this week and probably without internet access so will not be tweeting.
I've scheduled a post each day to go live at midnight BST and Julie Storry of Sydney Eye will be posting a notice to the CDPB Facebook page which is also where CDPB members can go to vote for September's theme day.

Signs on Dowson Road
The Leading Edge hair and beauty salon is offering "Prom Packages"; the "Hot Crumpet" sandwich shop is open. There's a no parking sign, a sign for the "Simply Chinese" takeaway. On the other side of the road one house is "To Let" and another is "For Sale". The 330 bus to Stockport displays an electronic sign.

ABC Wednesday: V is for Vandalism

It must have been a powerful blow that broke the glass in the back of this bus shelter on Manchester Road.
Alas such vandalism is all too common a sight.

Telephone Box Isolated Again
As work continues on the renewal of Hyde Market, the telephone box on the corner of Market Street and Clarendon Street has been isolated behind the barriers again. Compare with the similar view two months previously.
Behind it flagstones have been extended to the road edge and the Sheffield stands removed as can seen on Hyde DP Xtra.
On the right, stopping at the heritage bus stop is a Stagecoach bus on the #344 Back Bower circular route, recently operated by Stotts who took on the route when previous operator Speedwells went bust.
This was on Saturday. Passing by on Monday workmen were laying tarmac down on the ground around the telephone box.
