Let's Talk Tripe again

When Jack Curvis - who was featured in 2006 on Hyde Daily Photo Vol.1 - retired a few years ago his tripe stall on Hyde Indoor Market was taken over by Lyndon Boot who continues to sell traditional tripe and cow heel as well as rag puddings, a range of low fat sausages and other delicacies.

A recent addition is a sculpture of a bull which has been firmly fixed above the stall.

Zig-zagging around the Indoor Market

Hyde Indoor Market is accessed from the Clarendon Square Shopping Centre. Opposite the tripe stall "Let's Talk Tripe" one ramp zigs up to the first floor where various stalls including Wilde's greengrocery can be found. Another ramp zags down to the basement where more stalls can be found.

ABC Wednesday: Y is for Yew Tree Singers

The Yew Tree Singers are a group based in Dukinfield. On the Saturday before Christmas they sing carols in Clarendon Square Shopping Centre to raise money for Willow Wood Hospice.

I first photographed them in December 2007.

I Love Where I Live

"I Love Where I Live" is a mural that stretches along the wall of the passageway to the toilets in the Clarendon Square Shopping Centre.

It was commissioned by the centre and created by young people from Alder Community High School, Godley Community Primary School and Flowery Field Primary School alongside tenants of the shopping centre.

Groups worked with artist Jacqui Symons to draw, sketch, paint, collage and print the buildings and houses of Hyde to create this 15 metre long artwork that features over 300 pieces of art.

Its positioning makes it difficult to photograph. This is the leftmost panel nearest the entrance.

Photos showing the length of the mural can be found on Hyde DP Xtra.

Reflections at Mocha Joe's

The tables at Mocha Joe's in Clarendon Square Shopping Centre provide a reflection of the roof of the mall and the sky above.

For a direct view of the roof see my post of 22nd August 2014.

For a taller view showing Mocha Joe's as well as the reflection see Geograph.

ABC Wednesday: C is for Clarendon Place Car Park

With the old multi-storey car park finally demolished and the site cleared, a new council car park has been created at the bottom end of Clarendon Place near the entrance to the Clarendon Square Shopping Centre. It is especially good news for disabled drivers who can now park much closer to the entrance.

This one takes up about half the area of the old multi-storey; the other half will be the site of the KFC outlet which will be built soon.

Just nearby the car parks either side of Beeley Street are still operating but users need to be careful where they buy their tickets from as one is run by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and the other by Simple Intelligent Parking.

Signs on the demolition site

There's a security sign on the fencing surrounding the now cleared site of the Clarendon Square multi-storey car park.

Beyond is a welcome sign by the entrance to the shopping centre.

The whole scene will change again once construction of the proposed KFC outlet gets under way.

ABC Wednesday: P is for Pawnbrokers

Things must be bad when even a pawnbrokers closes down. To be fair, the notices on the shutters state that the business has moved to another branch in Droylsden. Maybe they couldn't compete with the other pawnbrokers in town.

Waiting to be demolished

When I posted a photograph of Clarendon Square Multi-storey car park in March 2013 I remarked that it was rumoured it was going to be demolished.

Well the rumours were right and it is now all fenced off and waiting to be demolished.

See a view from the footpath out of Morrisons on Hyde DP Xtra.
