And then there were none
Originally there were a set of six shops on Grosvenor Road but by 2009 (see Hyde DP Volume 1) the middle shops had all been converted into housing. The hairdressers at the bottom end was converted into offices for a heating engineers by January 2013 and by Xmas 2013 even Yogi's convenience store at the top end had also closed and was being converted to residential use.
Now the offices at the bottom end are empty also.
The shadow of a tree at Knott Fold crosses the road.

At least the building's still getting used this way.
ReplyDeleteeeeek I hope there are shops nearby for those who live there? Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteI can recall these these being built as a small lad... if my memory serves me right my Granddad was the night watchman... no phone lines or alarms then Gerald.... he had a hut to shelter in and a oil drum fire to keep warm... and a pickaxe shaft for protection.
ReplyDeleteWhen they first opened I know the bottom shop was fruit and veg... the 3rd shop up was a newsagents, and the 4th was a butchers. I can recall there was a chip shop there at sometime as well... they were busy enough shops in the 1960's and 1970's.
Now, if they just had some trees out front...
