ABC Wednesday: S is for Sluice
This sluice gate on the Peak Forest Canal allows water to run off into Wilson Brook. The houses behind the fence on the right are part of Moorfield Place which was built on the site of the former Automasters Engineering Works.
See how it looked in August 2013;
a year before that in September 2012;
earlier in February 2012;
a year earlier in March 2011;
three years before that in March 2008 before the Automasters Works was demolished.
See the view in the opposite direction on Hyde DP Xtra.

They cleaned up what was around the sleuce last year:) Has been a while since I saw the sleuce for a canal (in my childhood years they were several, where I lived in Zeeland, Holland)

ReplyDeletesluice gate is just not a term we hear much here. :) serves a good purpose, though! thanks for linking, gerald!

ReplyDeleteFantastic image....and I appreciate you explaining it all and giving a little background to the 'other side'....enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteAlways an interesting shot here!
ReplyDeleteIt's because the towpath bends round at that end and the sluice basin is narrower.
ReplyDeleteNeat to see this in the different seasons. I agree it looks way better then the 2008 version. The one with the pretty yellow flowers was lovely.
