St George's, Hyde

A view of the church from the east. Read something about its history on Old Hyde.

A contribution to the CDPB St George's Day theme and Our World Tuesday.

  1. It is plain, and square, and perpendicular indeed, Gerald. Is there a graveyard associated? I thought there was invariably in the middle of the 19th centurey.

Thank you for your contribution to our National Day theme. I appreciate it.

    1. It does indeed have a burial ground - it and several individual tombs have been the subject of previous posts.

  2. I like the photo angle, brings new interest to an old church.

  3. I like the tower and I can see the clock. I would love to see the view of the country from the tower. Great shot!

    1. It is in fact possible to climb up the tower the steps are far too steep for me to attempt it.

  6. The roof hips are somehow disconcerting - way ahead of their time?

    1. Well spotted! The roof hips aren't orginal but were added in the 1989-90 restoration when the roof was replaced and redesigned.
