Yellow Christmas
Very shortly after noon on Christmas Day, motorists were busy filling up at the Shell station on Dowson Road. Being one of the few days when the local superstores close, it probably had a little less competition than usual. Regular unleaded was 130.9 pence per litre and diesel 138.9 ppl.
See a selection of 89 photos taken all over Britain and Ireland around midday on December 25th 2011 on Geograph.

HELLO GERALD - EILEEN FROM BOLTON HERE.
ReplyDeleteIT TOOK ME A WHILE TO RECOGNISE WHICH GARAGE THIS IS. IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERANT FROM THE ONE THAT SOLD MINI CARS WHEN I USED TO PASS BY EVERYDAY IN MY CHILDHOOD. IT LOOKS NICE AND CLEAN ANYWAY. GOOD PHOTO. ALL THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND EVERYONE READING THE BLOG.
BYE FOR NOW!
Eileen - I wonder if you are mistaking it for the old Bells car showroom on the opposite side of the road. That was demolished in 2006 and on that site now is Enfield Court, retirement apartments.
Deletehello gerald - eileen from bolton here.
ReplyDeleteit is the same gararge gerald,i can see the back of the houses on gower road, i can see the lock up garages you posted a few months ago that i didn't remember from before, i do remember walking behind this garage everyday when i worked at ashton brothers, and just out of the photo there are two bungalows that were built in the early 1960's and then theres a space before the terraced houses start where a business is situated.
i also remember the other garage well on the other side of dowson road where enfield court is now, which expanded into a big well known garage that sold lot's of cars in a showroom and repaired cars as well. this business must have taken the sales side away from the one across the road which is more like a petrol station now. i remember brother tom walking home late one night from the pub having drunk one too many. he didn't make it home and instead slept in one of the cars displayed on the forecourt. just think gerald you could be sleeping in the same spot as tom once slept! ha! ha!
Great capture. Happy New Year!
