Shadow Shot Sunday: Wardle Brook Avenue

From Underwood Road looking into Wardle Brook Avenue.

A shadow still lies over the area where Ian Brady and Myra Hindley lived. Their old house has long since been demolished. If you need to, read the article on Wikipedia.

They were called the "Moors Murderers" through having buried their victims on Saddleworth Moor. Despite an intensive search, the body of Keith Bennett has yet to be found. A concerted effort was made in 1986 - see my poem Searchday Thursday - but without resolution.

The search for Keith continues even to this day - for more information visit the Keith Bennett official website or the appeal page on Facebook.

For more shadow shots visit Hey Harriet.

  1. Some years ago I read a book about Hindley and Brady, and I remember that it said they first met on 23 Jan 1961 when Myra Hindley started work at a place in Ardwick where Brady worked. Coincidentally, I started work on the same day for GPO Telephones (later to become BT) in central Manchester. I lived in Denton at the time, whereas Hindley lived in Gorton, and I often wonder if she and I travelled to work on the same 210 bus along Hyde Road on our respective journeys to work.

  4. The trees sit on the grassy land, the shadows entice us to cool down and get out of the sun. That it sits upon a collection of modern houses, the big lawn at least adds the look of a park in the neighborhood...

That the homicidal couple's house is demolished, the land at least feeling peaceful now...

  5. Oh, wow. I'll check out the websites that you recommended. I hadn't heard any of this before. Still, the big tree and soft shadows are very pretty, and so are the clouds.

    Hope your weekend is great!

  14. It is a very beautiful place to live, with views over the fields to the hills! I have spent many an hour walking in the woods and the length of Wardle Brook Avenue for many years. I have never witnessed anything more spooky than the odd late traveller coming home from the pub on a misty night!
