On a bitter cold sunny day, the tree by the side of Church View casts its shadow across the ground.

Godley Brook by Hoviley

I first showed the weir on the Godley Brook from the entrance to the ABC Wax premises in May 2007 and then again in March 2009 when there was a supermarket trolley below the weir.

It looked a bit different in September 2009 and in July 2011.

On the right is the M67 motorway.

More work behind fences

For the last few years workers have been busy converting the site of the former Automaster's engineering works by the Peak Forest Canal into an estate of new houses.

The area in the foreground here was the builder's "yard" but now the houses are all complete, they have started clearing the yard. Whether they are landscaping it or putting up some light commercial units as they are doing lower down Manchester Road, I'm not yet sure.

In a corner of the bottom of the inside market in Clarendon Mall is a unit that sells photoprints and signs.

These were on display last Saturday.

Ripples on the Peak Forest Canal

The latest in my series of photographs of the Peak Forest Canal from the Manchester Road bridge was taken yesterday morning.

Whilst much of the UK was blanketed in snow, here we had only a few flakes but it was bitterly cold with an icy wind blowing. So strong was the wind that it was creating ripples in the normally calm surface of the canal.

On the left the construction work at the former Automasters site has moved nearer to the new housing estate. Whether they are landscaping the area or building some light commercial units, as they have done lower down Manchester round, I'm not sure. We will see no doubt in due course.
