Weekend reflections in the Cotton Bale

On Thursday I posted a photograph of the Cotton Bale on Hyde DP Xtra and a close-up of the Pub sign here.

The J D Wetherspoons pub on the corner of John Street and Market Place is currently closed for refurbishment, so it was ideal opportunity to catch a reflection of the street in its window.

ABC Wednesday: H is for Hot Crumpet

The Hot Crumpet is a sandwich shop on Dowson Road next door to what is now a hair and beauty salon.

The current proprietors are Steve and Steph who took it over about eight years ago. As well as hot and cold sandwiches they provide jacket potatoes, pies, salads and various snacks. Some days they do a lunchtime special such as curry&rice, lasagne, lamb hotpot, sausage&mash.

Two Benches without a Tree

These two benches can be found at the corner of Union Street and Market Street.

When they first appeared in January 2009 there was a tree between them - see my post from Hyde Daily Photo Vol. 1.

Let's Talk Tripe again

When Jack Curvis - who was featured in 2006 on Hyde Daily Photo Vol.1 - retired a few years ago his tripe stall on Hyde Indoor Market was taken over by Lyndon Boot who continues to sell traditional tripe and cow heel as well as rag puddings, a range of low fat sausages and other delicacies.

A recent addition is a sculpture of a bull which has been firmly fixed above the stall.

Hyde Nursing and Care Centre

Hyde Nursing and Care Centre operated by Meridian Healthcare Ltd is built on the site of Wards 1-3 of the former Hyde Hospital.

According to their website they provide general nursing care and nursing dementia (EMI Nursing) care for older people. Hyde Nursing Home is also the home to an intermediate care service called Grange View. Grange View services are provided by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. The Pennine Care team is made up of healthcare assistants, nurses and therapists who will help patients to recover and regain their independence following a hospital stay. This will include patients who have a long term condition, those who need help with dressings and wound care and people with mobility problems.

Local people generally continue to refer to Grange View as Hyde Hospital.
