No more Unity
This is my contribution to signs, signs.
What signs?
The only sign in evidence is the one warning that the area is covered by CCTV surveillance.
The signs of the Unity pub have indeed been stripped from the building.
See how it looked in December.
Take a closer look at the missing pub sign in a post from June 2008.

ABC Wednesday: H is for Hyde Motors

The car showroom on Clark Way used to be full of mainly imported American cars but the Stewart Wilson company moved out and the premises have been empty since September 2010. Now they are open again.

Melanie from Manchester

One morning recently I met Melanie and her mate from Manchester College selling Student Rag-mags in the Market Place.
Now I haven't seen a student ragmag for about 40 years. In some ways this was much the same, being full of mainly crudely smutty jokes and little subtlety. Both men and woman are equal targets except for the proverbial blondes. The only racial stereotypes are the Welsh and Kiwis with hints about their relationships with sheep.
The old rag mags though were always local in kind and supported student charities, but this one could be found equally in Manchester, Glasgow or Cardiff and sellers apparantly retain a portion of the cover price for themselves.

Jolly Carter under scaffolding again

The men in yellow jackets are erecting scaffolding at the Jolly Carter again.
The last time that happened it was having a makeover but it has been closed again for some time - it is still advertising Christmas!
There's a long yellow ladder behind the truck.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Tree at Pole Bank

Last Sunday I posted the shadow of a bench at Pole Bank and yesterday I posted a view from across the pond showing two benches and a tree.
So today I'm posting the tree's shadow.
See the same tree when it was just a three-foot sapling on Old Hyde.
A video by "Lilac Toad" with old photos relating to the history of Pole Bank can by found on YouTube.

The Weekend in Black & White: Pole Bank Pond

A view across Pole Bank Pond towards the benches on the opposite side.
See a closer view of one of the benches on last Sunday's shadow shot.
Check out an old view of the pond on Old Hyde.
Read something of its history and see four more photographs of the pond on Hyde DP Xtra.

Café chairs outside B's

The CDPB theme this month is Café chairs. Unlike some places, Hyde doesn't really have much of a pavement café culture, and, if I'm honest, the reason why there are a couple of tables and set of chairs outside B's on Clarendon Place is that they are for the use of customers who like to smoke which they cannot do inside.
Earlier this week I was inside B's looking out and you can see that view of the chairs on Hyde DP Xtra.
See more kinds of chairs on the CDPB March theme day page.
