Beeley Street Car Park

Beeley Street car park is on the site of the former Hyde Lads Club

Now you could get yourself a parking ticket in the time it would take to read everything on the sign.

And then you discover the ticket machine is out of action (someone has attached a "penalty notice" to it!). There was a queue of people waiting to use the one at the other end of the car park.

An attached notice warns parkers to avoid leaving valuables on view (no responsibility - blame the victim).

Another notice informs that the council has donated £100,000 to local charities with money siphoned off the parking charges.

As you have to pay in advance you also have to guess how long you want to park for in order to avoid excess charges.

At times like this I'm glad I'm no longer a car owner.

ABC Wednesday: N is for No

This sign is at the entrance to Gower Hey Wood from Balmoral Avenue. Underneath is a notice made by pupils of the nearby Dowson Primary School which reads "We like dogs but we don't like their mess". Below that is a request not to leave litter.

Now hang on a minute; this is the UK not the USA; guns here are illegal anyway, so why the need to specifically ban them here?

Path to Great Wood

Leaving the main road just South of Hattersley Cutting this path leads Great Wood, Bothams Hall, Hodgefold and eventualy comes out at Broadbottom.

I understand it is very popular with ramblers and equestrians but it goes too far for me so I've never ventured down it.

Woodend Allotments

Although some of the smaller allotments on Woodend Lane at the top of the valley of the Gower hey Brook such as the ones I showed you in September 2007 have had to be abandoned, others lower down the valley are flourishing.

This one is home to several animals; see the goose in action on Hyde DP Xtra.

Shadows and Blossom

Last Sunday was a splendid day of sunshine creating some strong shadows. These were along the footpath that links the two ends of Clark Way. On the left are some car repair yards. On the right beyond the fence that the blossom is climbing over is the M67 motorway.

Weekend Reflections: Below Captain Clarke's Bridge

Last Sunday was a gorgeous sunny day which prompted me to take a walk by the Peak Forest Canal.

Just below Captain Clarke's bridge I captured this reflection of the sun shining through the trees of Gower Hey Wood.

A Hole in Hamnett Street

They were digging a hole in Hamnett Street the other week.

I don't know how deeply they dug as this was as close as I could get.

It was outside #3 which a century ago was home to a firm of undertakers - see today's post on Old Hyde for more information.
