Mellow Yellow Monday: Lollipop Lady
Officially known as school crossing patrollers, lollipop men and ladies as they are more popularly called, are a common sight in the UK.
Under UK law it is an offence for a motorist not to stop if signalled to do so by a patroller. In the past patrollers only had the authority to stop the traffic for children. However, the Transport Act 2000 changed the law so that a patroller had the authority to stop the traffic for any pedestrian.

ReplyDeleteYou have captured the very house I was born and bred in Gerald, I lived in the terrace house next door to the chipshop on Dowson Rd from 1965 - 1984. They used to have a crossing patrol then.
ReplyDeleteA moving picture I must say. But our society runs more and more on non paid volunteers or am I wrong.
