Looking down on the Peak Forest Canal

The Peak Forest Canal, viewed here from the Manchester Road bridge, was built at the turn of the 18th/19th centuries. On the right are 19th century warehouses. On the left are 21st century houses built on the site of the former Automasters Enginering Works.

  5. Is it just me but I find the oldest photo very evocative. I long for bygone times and that picture reminds me of what we have lost. I know progress means knocking down the old but I am old and I dont want to be regarded as something to be got rid of.
