Despite the use of mobile telephones there are still many telephone boxes left in the UK. Many are the old red telephone boxes some of which have been granted listed building status and are thus legally preserved. Others like this one outside the Fiat dealership on Market Street are modern ones from which you can apparently send emails and text messages as well as make phone calls.
At least you could before some trashed it - see Hyde DP Xtra.
In the background, up the street, is the James North Clock which had previously stood in the grounds of the Slack Mill that closed in 1998 and was subsequently demolished. See a closer view of the timepiece in a post from February 2013.

Gosh, we sure don't have anything that modern here - guess I need to move to Kansas City (where everything's up to date) or else to Hyde!!

I miss the traditional red telephone booth ! In Belgium too they almost have disappeared.

That is so modern. That reminds me I should take pics of the traditional ones before they vanish.
ReplyDeleteI've seen some payphones here that you can text or email from, though they're quite limited. A good street scene!
