In a corner of the bottom of the inside market in Clarendon Mall is a unit that sells photoprints and signs.

These were on display last Saturday.

Ripples on the Peak Forest Canal

The latest in my series of photographs of the Peak Forest Canal from the Manchester Road bridge was taken yesterday morning.

Whilst much of the UK was blanketed in snow, here we had only a few flakes but it was bitterly cold with an icy wind blowing. So strong was the wind that it was creating ripples in the normally calm surface of the canal.

On the left the construction work at the former Automasters site has moved nearer to the new housing estate. Whether they are landscaping the area or building some light commercial units, as they have done lower down Manchester round, I'm not sure. We will see no doubt in due course.

Easter bonnets

Last Saturday in the inside market in Clarendon Mall there was an Easter bonnet competiton on and these were some of the entries on display.

Horses by the Foxholes Oak

Two horses are on the bridlepath section of the Trans Pennine Trail underneath the oak tree at Foxholes. A third horse is on the grass by the side of what is now a section of the National Cycle Route #62 from Southport and Liverpool to Hull and Hornsea.

Originally this was the Godley Junction to Apethorn Railway line used once by steam trains transporting freight from the Yorkshire coalfields to Fiddler's Ferry power station on the river Mersey.

Weekend in Black & White: Old Railway Signal Post

The cutting back of the growth on the banking of the former Godley Junction to Apethorn Railway and the trimming of the lower branches of some of the trees has exposed to view an old railway signal post.

The route is now part of the TransPennine Trail and the National Cycle Network Route 62.

Friday Fences: New Road at Godley Hill

A new road from Mottram Road is being constructed to serve the Kerrygold factory at Godley Hill. This view of the preparatory work for the construction is from the side of Godley Hill War Memorial.
