The former Unity Inn

The Unity Inn on the corner of Oldham Street and Croft Street was closed in 2013 and has since been converted into residential use.

See how it looked in December 2012 before it was closed and in March 2013 when it was stripped of its signage.

A contribution to Ruby Tuesday and Our World Tuesday.

  1. Nice looking conversion. I love that font Robbo's used for their pubs....better than the beer!

  5. The Unity was a Robinson's Brewery pub which was reflected in its interior style - a little old fashioned but welcoming and homely, nonetheless. A little off the "main drag" of Market Street, it always seemed to me like one of Hyde's little treasures. It's a shame that it's this type of pub that has to go to the wall whereas we tend to be left with the less than desirable town centre "boozers."

  6. Gerald, I have acopy of "A History of the Pubs of Hyde and District" by Paul Taylor (Published in 1984 and from the excellent Neil Richardson series of public house histories - district by district). He states, "Before it was licensed, the building is said to have been a bakehouse" so, it would seem that the building has undergone previous change of use. He also refers to "was once popular with the amateur actors of the Theatre Royal and, more recently, those of the Festival Theatre" - they always seemed to be in evidence whenever I happened to pop in for a pint in midweek, which must have been their rehearsal night. The room at the corner of the building was known as the "Chart Room" because of its nautical flavour - plenty of maps, charts and seafaring brasses. Certainly, the end of an era.

    1. In recent years it was where the Theatre Royal Onward Trust used to hold their meetings - now they meet in the Cheshire Ring.
