ABC Wednesday: K is for Knott Lane

Knott Lane is ancient route connecting Gee Cross with Knott Fold.

In modern times the Cheetham Fold estate has been built around it, including The Apethorn public house.

Despite being a popular local pub and a music venue, it was closed in January 2015 by its then owners, Enterprise Inns, and has been sold over the head of the pub manager.

See how it looked in 2009 on Hyde Daily Photo Vol.1.

View it from the opposite direction on Hyde Xtra.

  1. Knott Lane rates as a very English name.

  2. I left Hyde 40 years ago. Any idea of the number of functioning pubs in Hyde - then and now? Have 3/4 of them gone? More ?

    So sad

    1. At the last count I think the tally was around 30+ pubs left

  3. How foot paths, rabbit trails, and cow paths evolve into today's roads and highways have always fascinated me. Say "ancient" to me and my imagination just starts spinning. :-)
