A Greenall's pub on the corner of Market Street and Tower Street. There are just over 30 public houses in the Hyde area (including Gee Cross, Newton &c) which is about a fifth of the number there were around a century ago.
There was a rumour recently that the Sheps was going to close, but landlord Eddie Collier was quick to squash the rumour on Facebook.

That's such a good name for a pub. My late brother's late mother-in-law had immigrated from England as a young woman after the war. She said the one thing she missed was a good pub.
ReplyDeleteI expect it's been a long time since they heard a shepherd call in that area.
