The end for Route 66

This is how the signage looks outside Route 66.

Originally it was the Church Inn but changed its name to Tylers in 2006 and became Route 66 in 2008.

The "party" was in 2009 after which it was closed down by the police.

The building was sold recently at auction and now workmen have completely gutted it inside.

As it is highly unlikely to reopen as a pub, this signage will probably disappear any time soon.

There is a brief illustrated history of the Church Inn from 1902 on Hyde DP Xtra.

A contribution to signs, signs.

  1. Route 66 is an historic highway across the U.S. This is an odd place to find this sign. There was a TV show in the 1960s by this same name about two guys driving across the U.S. in a Corvette and their adventures. Looks like this pub is in need of some renovation.

  2. So strange seeing that in the UK.

  3. I wonder what'll end up going in there....

  4. I have been told it will a Pound Shop... another one for Hyde..

  5. that is funny, "route 66"!! glad you got photos of all the signage before it's gone!

  6. Who knew that the old Route 66 would take you clear across the ocean ;))! I bet the former owner had visited Arizona or one of the other states that iconic road traversed. I've seen copies of the sign for sale in gift shops around that area.

  7. That must have been some party!
