Track to Godley Reservoir
There is a private access track to Godley Reservoir leading off Mottram Road. The gates are padlocked. There is a small building behind the wall. When the wall was being repaired in May 2011 the building was completely hidden in the trees.
It is in a fact a meter house. Godley reservoir is part of series of waterworks that were built originally to take water from the Longdendale Valley to Manchester.
See a map of the waterworks and aqueduct on Old Hyde.

One could make it a sight to be visited by Tourists and show its history.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good Tuesday ahead.
It does look like a neat place to explore. Have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteGates lost - tantalising.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Godley for seven years and never knew what those gates were - even though I drove past them every day. Thanks for the explanation.
