At the top of Gibraltar Lane is Haughton Green Village Post Office.
Compare it now with the one I published in
March 2010.
That post generated some comments, especially regarding Burley Keys who lived lower down Gibraltar Lane. You can read about him and see a photograph of the sundial he made on
Old Hyde.

Great idea for G day. The 2010 look of the post office is very different from this one. I think I prefer the earlier look although the red in the new one adds some zing. Carver, ABC Wed. Team

Fascinating name, why Gibraltar Lane I wonder?
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy seeing post offices tucked in among other shops. Kate, ABC Team
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific. It is an English scene so representative of many street corners here in Coventry too.
ReplyDeleteKind of like a scene I've seen on TV.

I see these pictures through different eyes from those who know this area so, to me, this is the special picture. This - the one you've posted today, is a classic. One of my favourite of your photos. So much to see. So much to draw one in. So much atmosphere. If I'd taken this photo, I'd be really proud.
ReplyDeleteGood shot this, has a heart of the community feel about it. I'm an HGV driver and have delivered confectionary, drinks etc many times to this P.O. Its a very busy little junction and finding a spot to park up and unload can be a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteChrissie Brand, the reason for the name Gibraltar was that many local places of the time were named after places that had been conquered or involved in battle around that time
