Looking over Hyde Cemetery from its Southern entrance off Back Bower Lane.
Down the path on the right lies the remants of the
cemetery chapel now demolished.
See how it looked under snow in
February 2009.
See also how it looked on Monday, 31st January 2000 when the jury at Preston Crown Court convicted
Harold Shipman of 15 murders and of forging a will.

Lovely old cemetery and wonderful shadow shots for the day! Hope your weekend is going well! Enjoy!

A double way - into the photo, the is. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I really like cemeteries and find a certain peace about them.
ReplyDeleteVery nice composition.
ReplyDeleteRegards and best wishes
what a picture perfect shadow shot of the cementary.
ReplyDeleteI simply LOVE this! Nuff said!

Great shadows -- they make a nice frame to the brightly lit plot in the middle. One of the shadows in the foreground looks a bit like a stick figure striding along.
ReplyDeleteIt so peace and quiet in a way.
ReplyDeleteHappy SSS...

This is very pretty, Gerald, and with a commanding view. I gather, from the width of the carriageways, that cars are allowed through the cemetery. I liked the snow picture (even though your imprint spoils it!!). However, the 'shipman' image could not be found.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to get a google satellite view of the entire cemetery, but could not work out which Hyde Cemetery was the correct one. Is it on Greenhill Road?
Thanks for this contribution. Like yourself, I am hoping the portal is up and going by the end of this weekend. I suspect the 'team' are sick of it by now!!
There was an error in the Shipman link (I missed out a quote-mark!) - now corrected - the snowy photo without overlaying text can be viewed here and the 2000 shot also at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/807684 - scroll down one one of the geograph pages and you'll find a link to google-maps - I suspect you were searching for some other Hyde Cemetery - this is the one in Hyde, Cheshire!
DeleteOnly corteges and cemetery vehicles are allowed into the cemetery - private vehicles must park near the main entrance on Stockport Road.
Deletebeautiful composition ! I like the way the shadows all converge towards the graves ...
ReplyDeleteLovely shadows from the cemetery. There sure are a lot of headstones in such a small area.
ReplyDeleteLove the perspective of the photo! It seems the lens has captured the graves wrapped in a heart shape created by the drive! Very interesting! And love the criss-crossing shadows!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous capture of shadow, light and life...life in varied forms. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhich path shall I take? The right or the left? Either way, I'm sure I'll see wondrous shadows.
