Skywatch Friday: The Foxholes Oak


This ancient oak tree at Foxholes, just below Knott Fold, overlooks the former Godley to Apethorn Railway line now used by the Trans Pennine trail.

See how it looked on Christmas Day 2011.

See also how it looked covered in leaves in June 2009 on sithenah.

Since then it has lost a number of branches - see some smaller ones on the embankment and view the embankment from the opposite direction on Hyde DP Xtra.

    And yes, I remember and used those machines for gum, once when I was young.

    Hurray for photographs that one can see the same things, in different seasons, at the same time. It's fascinating. Not the same as standing there in different weathers but, uplifting somehow, none the less. I'll put a link from Loose and Leafy. Hope that's ok/
