ABC Wednesday: R is for the Ruins of Charlotte House Residential Care Home
The ruins of Charlotte House, a care home on Albert Road. It caught fire in the early hours of the 16th December 2010. The home was in the process of being closed down and only a few residents were still living there. They all escaped safely but the building now faces demolition.
I showed you a wider view of this in May and it doesn't look much different now.

How sad, it looks like it was a lovely old building.
ReplyDeleteGood that everyone got out safely. A grand old building, but obviously it's time has come.
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand lady - how sad she will be gone forever
ReplyDeleteWonder what they'll build there in it's place Gerald. Such a shame to lose such lovely old buildings.
ReplyDeleteGlad no one was injured but sorry to see the loss of such a building.
ReplyDeleteGlad nobody got hurt.
ReplyDeleteMy R is about Raking Leaves, please come and see.
Too bad to lose such a lovely old building.
ReplyDeleteAre building materials recycled in your area? Certainly the bricks could be reused and probably interior fittings too. We have a couple of businesses here that recycle all categories of architectural materials. I hate to think of all this wonderful material with the patina of time end up in the dump (I think you say "tip").
ReplyDeleteThat's a real shame... it looks like a unique piece of architecture. ODP sure has a good point.
