ABC Wednesday: P is for the Pond at Pole Bank

Pole Bank was the home of the Ashton family, prominent mill-owners. The house is now a private nursing home. The grounds, however are a public open space.

I first published a photo of the pond in May 2008. In early 2010 the pond was dredged as part of renovation work which you can see here and also here.

This photograph was taken this Tuesday. It was raining heavily and I had to shelter under the trees as best I could. Another photograph from a different angle can be seen on Hyde DP Xtra.

A vintage view can be found on Old Hyde.

  5. Very Wind and the Willows Gerald, I half expected to see Toady whizzing around in the vintage shot. What a very beautiful and serene scene!

  8. It's a lovely place. I had to laugh at your description of the weather...could just see you huddled under the trees trying to protect your camera...I've done the same thing too many times, but rain provides some wonderful photos, like this one!

  9. It cheers my socialist heart to see these vast estates turned over to the public good. My ABC Wednesday this week is Pink!

  10. For some reason this reminds me of Monet's water Lillies - maybe it's the weeping willow in the background. Regardless, very pretty.
