Bridge with attached pipeline
The view is looking West on the TransPennine Trail that is the new use for the line of the former Godley to Apethorn railway.
This is not the bridge that links Peel Street with Mansfield Road, as I thought when I first posted this, but the Stockport Road bridge. Thanks to Dave Williams for correcting me.
What, you may ask, is carried in that pipeline supported by the bridge? Well I don't know. I do know that there are various other pipeline bridges across railways and streams and doubtless they link up with each other somewhere.

Well, there's the (non) answer to my first question! what a shame they didn't hide it.
ReplyDeleteThe bridge is like a pretty frame to the view beyond it! Wonderful photo :D
ReplyDeleteA very nice combination of structure, pattern, texture and depth.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the bridge which carries Stockport Road over the old railway line, Gerald. The path coming down from the start of, and running parallel to, Osborne Road meets the path on the old railway line just as it goes round to the left and disappears in your photo. The bridge linking Peel Street with Mansfield Road is the next one along as you go toward Godley, and doesn't have the retaining walls on either side of the bridge that are seen in your photo. I would imagine that the pipeline is a drain going down eventually to the sewage works at the top of Mill Lane.
ReplyDeleteit's a nice view through the bridge,
ReplyDeleteWell spotted Dave. I'll double-check in a day or two when the weather improves but I'm sure you're right.
ReplyDeleteI often have trouble identifying the different bridges when I walk along the old railway line, and usually end up checking on Google Earth when I get home. I wonder if the pipeline goes to the old pumping station at the top of Lumn Road which you featured earlier this year?
ReplyDeleteYes I had the same thoughts about the pumping station.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Gerald. Nice to hear from you again. You've been working hard on your blogs ...
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast here between the hardness and solidity of the stone and metal and the softness of the flora of the forest. The colors, too, are excellent.
Nice pic Gerald. I rode under here this afternoon with youngest Daughter in tow!
ReplyDeleteTo me it looks like a very strong and massive bridge. I am also curious what the pipeline is for.
ReplyDeleteStone bridges are so awesome. They look like they will stand forever!
ReplyDeleteQuite interesting, Gerald!
