According to Daves History of Hattersley
In 1858 the Manor House was sold to John Chapman, Member of Parliament for Grimsby. A local farm-house was turned into a pub and became the Chapman Arms in his honour. It was demolished and replaced in 1967.and according to Wikipedia
Chapman died at his house at Hill End in Mottram where he was also lord of the manor of Hattersley and as such always supported the residents of the area including presenting them with a free library.and that's all I know.
