ABC Wednesday: O is for Onward Chambers

Onward is the motto of Hyde Corporation and you'll find the name in various places around the town. Here it is in the doorway of 34 Market Street. In Kelly's 1914 Directory it was listed as being the offices of the Brittanic Assurance Co. Now the building is occupied by "The Taste of India". On one side is Barclays Bank and on the other is a Pound shop.

You can see the whole building and a second Onward Chambers on Hyde DP Xtra.

For more O posts visit ABC Wednesday.

  1. "Onward" seems like a good motto to me, much better than always living in the past. :)

  7. Brittanic Assurance Co isn't shown in Market Street in the earlier Kelly's Directory of 1902, but it does show a firm of Solicitors, Smith Hervey & Sons, at a Market Street address, but with no specified number.
